Wolverine Assembly highlights the early success stories at Bayfield Intermediate School

Students are presented with awards at the assembly.

Principal Will Machallister kicked off the year’s first Wolverine Assembly by reminding students, staff members and the parents who attended of the school’s theme for the year — Relentless Grit, Gratitude and Growth — and the commitment they share to embrace those values. His welcome message was reinforced by a Reader’s Theatre performance based on the theme and presented by Ryan Blundell’s fifth-grade class.Machallister kicked off the awards portion of the assembly by recognizing the Reading Academic Achievement winners. Assistant Principal Alex Forsthoff then presented the Math Academic Achievement Awards and Machallister jumped back on the microphone to recognize the Language and Science Academic Achievement award winners.

Each of the Achievement Award winners was presented with a certificate for earning the school’s highest scores on the Northwest Evaluation Association tests that were taken this fall. The Reading, Math and Language assessments were given to grades 3-5, but the science test was only taken by fifth-graders.

At the end of the presentations, Machallister announced that the next Wolverine Assembly would recognize those students who demonstrate the most growth when they take the NWEA test again.

Following the Academic Achievement Awards, Forsthoff returned to the floor to recognize dozens of students for achieving perfect attendance through the first two months of the school year. The students, who were also presented with certificates by Machallister, lined up from one end of the gymnasium to the other in an impressive display.

Machallister reminded students that any class with four straight days of perfect student attendance receives a root beer float party, and a large school-wide reward awaits if Bayfield Intermediate School can log a day of 100% student attendance at any point this year.

School Counselor Rob Stafford recognized the Citizens of the Month for September as part of the assembly, and reminded students of the theme for upcoming months, and Tim Telep announced the Explore Class of the Quarter. The school’s student council was also introduced and each member shared a few words with their peers to conclude the assembly.
